no-science musique: in the beginning...

ok so i decided with all my spare time and love of music to create a blog of new and interesting sounds. especially since right now i feel lost in the country/bad hip hop section of life and need to dig myself out of it.

today i managed to find some really incredible groups looking up crap about one of my favorite mellow bands the album leaf. my mom thinks it sounds like spiritual healing music or something you would listen to while getting a message but i think it is much darker than that. really good music for a rainy day - the acoustics sound like it was recorded in some big open loft, rough, but nice.

....so in the midst of exploring the album leaf site i read that they are collaborating with a group called telefon tel aviv. originating out of new orleans, louisiana in the late 90's, they were signed and relocated to a chicago label Hefty Records. they are actually performing at some big raver event in chicago today (which i had to miss for many reasons) but i am hoping to hear more of them since they are based not more than 3 hours from me. here is a site for some free downloads. anyway check out Hefty's website for some other great bands... L'Altra, phil renelin, and solo andata were some of my favorites.

the glen section:

being that my boyfriend is from england and some how good musical taste is passed down in their genetics, i am including the glen section. this is for all the bands he turns me on to which i find worthy of playing over and over again.

today's favorite is a guy from cornwall, england (surprised?) by the name of James Morrison. critics say he sounds like otis redding but i personally think more of stevie wonder - what ever the case he has a very deep, bluesy voice for a 21 year old, white brit. i had to listen to his cd two times today and cried through some of the songs. you could say he is a bit like john mayer but to avoid insults, he isn't sappy (at least not as sappy as i am crying through his damn songs!).

second favorite - the kooks. This 19 year old, brit-pop/punky/indie band comes out of brighton, england. so far they can't top my all time favorite bloc party - but they come pretty close with a couple of their poppier (is that a word) songs - 'she moves in her own way', 'ooh la', and 'you don't love me'. they have a flair of folk in their guitar but i think the best is their accents and bad grills.
